Raats Red Jasper 2016

The 2016 Jasper Red Blend (formerly entitled "Red Jasper") was aged for 16 months in French tight-grain oak barrels (20% second-fill, 30% third-fill and 50% fourth-fill). The bouquet has lifted, brambly red berry fruit laced with tobacco and light flinty aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin and quite masculine in style. The saline finish feels quite long in the mouth. Give this a year to 18 months in bottle.
Solid, with hints of black olive and sage surrounding the core of dark cherry flavors. Shows vibrancy on the finish, while firm tannins provide support. Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Merlot. Drink now through 2023. 1,000 cases made, 910 cases imported.
